Blackpool Slurry Plant, Blackpool Dryers

Following the successful disposal of 8 x 100,000 & 2 x 500,000 litre 316 stainless
steel tanks, SCD were invited to dispose and remove a 5 acre Slurry plant from the
site.
The plant consisted of an 8ft concrete wall with RSJ structured sides and roof and
was consistent with a working slurry facility to include a range of pumps, conveyors,
Duetz Gearboxes, overhead crane magnets and electric motors with associated
switch gear and transformers.
The plant was soft stripped prior to subsequent dismantling and remote demolition.
The main issue was associated with the presence of naturally occurring radioactivity
within the China clay which was prevalent throughout the plant.
This issue was overcome using high-power jetting to reduce levels to meet the
release criteria.
